Hello!
I’m Marcia Dean, a Developmental Educator and the director of Grow Your Own Way.
I hold a double degree, completing a Bachelor of Education (Primary R-7 & Special Education) and Bachelor of Disability Studies with Flinders University. I am a registered Developmental Educator (DE) with the DEAI (Developmental Educators Australia Inc) and provide therapy and supports for both NDIS and self-funded clients.
I have worked as a Developmental Educator and in behaviour support in a range of settings over the past 10 years, working in education settings, state government (Disability SA), the non-profit sector and in private practice.
I am super-passionate about supporting neurodivergent kids, teens, and adults to grow and develop the skills and knowledge they need to live the life they want. I have a special interest in supporting autistic young people, ADHDers, and people with intellectual disability. This focus in my work has come about through both my professional experiences over the years, alongside my own lived experience with neurodivergence.
My practice is informed by a strong commitment to:
· Neurodiversity-affirming (Neuro-affirming) Practice and Research
· Trauma Informed Care Principles
· Social Model of Disability
· CPS Approach to Behaviours
· Evidence-based Practice
and is inspired by the research and work of Dan Siegel, Ross Greene, Stuart Shanker, Mona Delahooke as well as the lived experiences of autistic advocates and educators.
