Developmental Educators are qualified allied health professionals who specialise in working with people with disability using a human rights framework to achieve full and effective inclusion and participation in society.
Developmental Educators consider the whole person and their sociocultural context. Practice centres on the lived experience, needs, goals and aspirations of people with disability.
Developmental Educators collaborate with people with disability to promote inclusion and address attitudinal and environmental barriers. They do so by employing a range of professional and technical skills including applying developmental, behavioural, learning and social theories; assessing the person and their environment; collaborative planning and goal setting; teaching skills through evidence based instructional strategies; supporting life transitions; programming, monitoring and evaluation; advocacy; community education; and capacity building.
Developmental Education is an Allied Health Profession and is recognised by the South Australian Government, the National Disability Insurance Agency and listed in the Pricing Arrangements under Capacity Building Supports and in the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Practice Standards Verification Module.
Developmental Educators Australia Inc (DEAI) is the professional regulating body for DEs. For more information about Developmental Educators, visit https://www.deai.com.au/
I can help you with a variety of things depending on your personal and therapeutic goals. My training and experience has led me to focus on supports and therapy for autistic and ADHD clients, and clients with intellectual disability.
Areas for support often include:
HOWEVER, this is not an exhaustive list! If you need a specific support that is not listed above, please contact with me as I may be able to provide the support you are after. If not, I will do my best to suggest alternative options/providers that may be able to assist.
NDIS Participants
If you have a NDIS plan, you can use the funding that you have been allocated in your Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living budget. Developmental Educators are approved to provide therapy supports within this category as listed within the NDIS support catalogue. This support category includes assessments and recommendations, training supports and therapeutic supports to assist the development of, or to increase a participant’s skills and their capacity for independence and community participation. Below are the specific line items for Early Childhood Supports and Therapy Supports (7 or older).

Non-NDIS Services
If you do not have an NDIS plan, fees for services will be an out-of-pocket expense to you. Unfortunately Medicare and private health insurance do not offer rebates for DE services at present.
I currently provide services from my therapy space located in Nuriootpa, in the Barossa Valley. I also have some limited capacity to provide mobile in-school, in-home and in-community supports, which can be negotiated to meet individual needs, for clients in the Barossa Valley and surrounding areas.
DE supports/therapy supports are charged at $193.99 per hour. This could include face to face/telehealth meetings, direct 1:1 therapy support, report/letter writing, resource development and other non face to face support as needed.
For mobile services a travel fee will also apply and will vary depending on location and travel time. Please make contact if you would like a quote for travel.
I have chosen not to become a Registered NDIS provider at present. This means that I cannot accept NDIS participants who are NDIS/Agency managed. This also means that I cannot provide Positive Behaviour Support Plans which may be listed in your plan under the funding line “Improved Relationships” as this is a very specific and regulated support which must be provided by Registered PBS Practitioners/Providers only.
I CAN accept NDIS participants who are either Plan-managed or Self-managed and have funding for Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living within their NDIS Plan.
This will depend on what you are needing support with. You may only need support for a short time to work towards a short-term, specific goal, OR you may be looking for regular weekly or fortnightly therapy sessions to work on ongoing longer-term goals. As a Developmental Educator OUR goal is to increase your knowledge, skills and capacity so that you can increase your independence and feel confident without us around.
You may find that I am easier to contact via email initially as I am often working 1:1 providing therapy supports and am unable to answer calls during these times. You are also welcome to call and leave a message if I am unavailable, or send a text message with your details and a brief message so that we can arrange a time to talk through your needs further.
I work with clients Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm however some limited after hours appointments can be made if needed.
Once you have made contact with me, I will be in contact to discuss if I am a good fit for the supports you are looking for. If I am unable to assist you, I will do my best to suggest alternative options that may be available to you.
